Vor allem waren es römische Gutshöfe (villae rusticae), die entlang der römischen Straße zwischen Ovilavis (Wels) und Iuvavum (Salzburg) das Landschaftsbild prägten. Am besten erforscht sind die Gutshöfe in Weyregg, Königswiesen bei St. Georgen im Attergau und Hausham bei Vöcklamarkt.

Eine Sonderstellung hatte das römische Kastell in Mösendorf bei Vöcklamarkt, das offensichtlich zum Schutz der wichtigen Straßenverbindung diente.
